Cars That Think for Themselves

More and more technology is finding its way into cars year after year. With new safety standards as well as more and more infotainment being packed into center consoles. Now though Google wants to take it to the next level with cars that can predict what you are going to do as well as a car that can drive itself using advanced sensors and complex mechanical algorithms.  No longer are you going to be alone in your car because your car is going to be learning more about you the more you drive.

Technology like the Google Prediction API allows automakers to make a car that is adaptive to every situation. This systems means that as you do your daily driving the car is actually learning how you drive, when power is needed, when it isn’t; as well as being able to plan appropriate routes to circumvent congestions and less fuel efficient routes.  Ford hopes that this will help lessen range anxiety in the next generations of EV’s.

Google also wants to unleash the latest version of its robotized car on the streets of Nevada. This car and others like it from current automakers begs the question, “are cars safer without drivers?” Some enthusiasts see this as sacrilegious but at the same time there are many drivers who would applaud the reduction in driving stress and the free time that would come with a commute where they didn’t have to drive themselves.

The question is do people want vehicles tracking their every move since companies like Apple have been questioned about their spying on consumers or in the quest for better fuel efficiency is this necessary. In the comments let me know what you think about a possible future of driverless cars and cars that try to predict your next move.
